Laser Eye Surgery

For a More Comfortable Life Without Glasses and Contacts
Laser vision correction has been the most widely performed eye surgery worldwide for over 30 years. It is perfect for those who want to live without relying on glasses or lenses. After LASIK surgery, patients can work on their computers, drive safely day or night, read, and enjoy sports without any restrictions.
Bilić Vision, with over 20 years of experience in laser eye surgery, offers top-quality care under the expert leadership of Dr. Luka Bilić and Dr. Branka Jurić. Their expertise in treating eye diseases and refractive surgery ensures high-quality service and a safe journey towards better vision.
Who is a Good Candidate?
Laser surgery can correct:
Nearsightedness
(up to -8.0 diopters)
Farsightedness
(up to +5.0 diopters)
Astigmatism
(up to 5.0 diopters of cylinder)
A comprehensive eye examination will determine if you’re a good candidate for the procedure. LASIK is not recommended for those with conditions such as keratoconus, glaucoma, cataracts, autoimmune diseases, or during pregnancy and breastfeeding. It’s also important to note that individuals over 40 may experience excellent distance vision post-LASIK, but will still need reading glasses, like their peers.
Furthermore, patients with farsightedness may notice some regression of their vision correction within months to a few years after surgery. Whether this happens depends on factors like genetics, initial prescription, and the healing process. If there’s enough corneal tissue left, additional corrections can be made if needed.

Preparation and Consultation
It’s important to note that glasses wearers do not need any special preparation for a specialist consultation regarding laser vision correction.
However, those who wear soft contact lenses should refrain from wearing them for at least 3 days prior to the consultation. Wearers of semi-rigid or rigid lenses should be lens-free for at least 8 days to ensure maximum accuracy in measuring your prescription and analyzing the condition of your eyes.
Before the surgery, soft contact lens wearers should be lens-free for two weeks, while semi-rigid and rigid lens wearers should remain lens-free for at least four weeks.
The pre-operative specialist eye exam is a crucial step in the laser vision correction process. During this approximately 90-minute exam, the ophthalmologist will conduct a thorough assessment of your eyes to accurately determine their condition and ensure that you are a suitable candidate for the procedure.
Pre-Operative Examination Includes:
Book Your Appointment
If after the pre-operative eye exam, we determine that you are a good candidate for laser vision correction, the ophthalmologist will explain the available laser correction methods we offer at the clinic. Based on your condition, the most suitable option will be recommended, and we will schedule the surgery within 5 business days.

Procedure
Having undergone a thorough examination at Bilić Vision Clinic, our specialists are already familiar with every detail of your eyes. It is important to bring a companion with you. Apart from that, no special preparation is required.
Before the procedure, we will conduct a few additional tests, and your eyes will be numbed with anesthetic drops. Once the anesthesia takes effect, the patient will be positioned on the laser bed, ready for the procedure.
At Bilić Vision Clinic, we perform laser vision correction in two ways:
Femto LASIK Method
Femto LASIK, also known as “blade-free LASIK,” is a method where all stages of the laser vision correction procedure are performed using lasers.
PRK Method
The PRK method is typically used for correcting lower degrees of refractive error and in patients with thinner corneas.
Femto LASIK Method
The Femto LASIK method is also known as “blade-free LASIK” because all stages of this laser vision correction procedure are performed using lasers. The Femto laser is used to create a corneal flap, and then the Excimer laser removes the refractive error.
At Bilić Vision Clinic, we are the only ones in the region to perform the Femto LASIK procedure using the latest 6th generation MEL 90 laser and the most precise femtosecond laser for creating the corneal flap, just as it is done at the most prestigious refractive surgery centers worldwide.
Using the Femto laser to create the corneal flap in LASIK has many advantages over traditional LASIK with a microkeratome:
The risk of complications during flap creation is reduced since laser flap creation is more precise and safer than the microkeratome method.
The surgeon has greater flexibility in choosing the thickness and diameter of the flap thanks to computer-aided design.
The ability to create thinner flaps (90-110 micrometers), which is particularly important for patients with thin corneas or high myopia.
Additionally, other benefits include a stronger attachment of the flap to the underlying tissue, improved contrast sensitivity, a reduced chance of epithelial cell growth under the flap after the procedure, and a lower incidence of dry eye.
PRK Method
The PRK method is typically used for correcting lower refractive errors and for patients with thinner corneas. During the procedure, the epithelial layer of the cornea is removed, and then the laser directly corrects the refractive error without cutting the cornea. After the PRK procedure, the corneal epithelium regenerates spontaneously within 2 to 3 days, but visual recovery may take longer, up to 3-4 weeks.
PRK can be applied for:
Myopia up to -6.00 diopters
Astigmatism up to 3.0 diopters
Hyperopia up to +4.0 diopters

Recovery After Surgery
Immediately after the surgery, as you get up from the treatment chair, you may notice a significant improvement in your vision. However, it’s important to note that your vision will continue to gradually improve in the following months.
Most patients quickly return to their normal activities by following the doctor’s instructions.
- within 2 days you can drive
- after 3 days you can work on the computer
- in 2 weeks, you will have completed your recovery from LASIK surgery and will return to the lifestyle you had before.
